Kolkata, 27 May (H.S.): Menaka Singh appeared before the office of the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday in connection with a real estate case. The investigation reportedly gained momentum after a complaint lodged by 81-year-old Bhawanipur resident Prabir Mukhopadhyay, who alleged that despite handing over his ancestral land, he never received the promised flat and was left homeless.

According to allegations, Prabir Mukhopadhyay had handed over his ancestral property to a promoter group, where a multi-storey building has already been constructed. He claimed that businessman Joy Kamdar had assured him of a flat in return, but the property has still not been registered in his name. The elderly couple is currently living in a rented house.

Sources said ED officials had also visited the project site on Tuesday and examined documents related to the case. The agency is probing allegations of fraud and illegal property acquisition linked to the matter.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Prabir Mukhopadhyay had approached Suvendu Adhikari during his “Janata Darbar” programme seeking intervention. He alleged that before his arrest, Joy Kamdar had promised to provide the flat but later demanded Rs 17 lakh in exchange.

Notably, last week the ED arrested Sona Pappu after prolonged questioning. The agency reportedly told the court that he was linked to a network involved in acquiring land and properties at undervalued prices. During the investigation, the ED also mentioned the names of businessman Joy Kamdar and police officer Shantanu Sinha Biswas.
