
Mumbai, 27 May (HS):
The Customs Department officials arrested a worker in Food Storage Department
at the Mumbai Airport for involvement in gold smuggling. Gold worth Rs 1.77
crore weighing 1.21 kg was recovered from his possession.
The 24-year worker, on suspicion was stopped on
Tuesday near the departure area of Terminal – 2. On search, 1.210 kg gold was
recovered from him. The worker has been identified as P V Yedekar, a native of
Sangli. During interrogation he confessed to illegally transfer the gold to
other person for a consideration of Rs 8,000.
Further investigation into the smuggling racket was
in progress.
