Bhubaneswar, 26 May (H.S.): The Second BRICS Technical Meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group, being organized under India’s BRICS Presidency, will be held from June 3 to 5, 2026, at the Taj Puri Resort in Puri, Odisha.
The high-level meeting will bring together delegates, policymakers and disaster management experts from BRICS member nations to deliberate on key issues related to disaster preparedness, resilience building and international cooperation in disaster risk reduction.
Representatives from Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and China, among other participating countries, are expected to attend the conference.
Odisha has been chosen as the host state in recognition of its proactive and globally acknowledged achievements in disaster preparedness and management. The state has earned international acclaim for its efficient cyclone management systems, community-based early warning mechanisms and large-scale rescue and evacuation strategies.
The technical meeting is expected to serve as an important platform for knowledge sharing among BRICS nations, fostering discussions on emerging technologies, coordinated disaster response strategies and enhanced multilateral cooperation in disaster management.
