Guwahati, 26 May (HS): The Indian Army’s trained K9 warriors emerged as a major attraction during Exercise PRAGATI 2026, demonstrating their crucial role in modern military operations alongside troops from friendly foreign nations. The multinational exercise witnessed specialised military dogs participating in tactical drills, highlighting interoperability and operational coordination in diverse combat scenarios.

The K9 teams showcased a range of capabilities including IED detection, tracking and intervention operations. Among the standout performers were Alan, a Belgian Malinois assault dog; Victor, a Rampur Hound tracker dog; and Deo, a Labrador explosive detection dog. Each dog displayed specialised operational skills, reflecting the discipline, versatility and mission readiness of the Indian Army’s canine units.

A significant highlight of the demonstration was the participation of the indigenous Rampur Hound breed. Represented by Victor, the breed drew attention for its climatic adaptability, resilience and disease resistance. Officials stated that the increasing induction of indigenous breeds into military roles aligns with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and strengthens self-reliance in defence capabilities.

The K9 warriors also demonstrated their effectiveness across varied terrains ranging from deserts to glaciers. Army officials noted that these trained dogs continue to play a vital role in detecting explosives, tracking hostile movement and supporting intervention teams in high-risk operations. Their speed, instinct, courage and loyalty make them indispensable force multipliers on the battlefield.

The exercise further featured robotic dogs, showcasing the growing integration of traditional combat support systems with emerging military technologies. Together, the robotic platforms and trained K9 units presented a unique blend of technology and operational experience aimed at enhancing future combat effectiveness.

Exercise PRAGATI 2026 once again highlighted the Indian Army’s focus on preparedness, innovation and multinational cooperation, with the K9 warriors standing out as symbols of courage, loyalty and operational excellence.---------
