Guwahati, 26 May (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday inaugurated the Model Village Development programme at Jagra village in Nalbari district and called for collective efforts to build self-reliant and sustainable villages.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor stressed the importance of education, healthcare, sanitation, women empowerment and scientific farming for rural development. Referring to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of village-based development and⁵ Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Viksit Bharat” mission, he said strong villages are the foundation of a strong nation.

During the programme, farming materials and support items, including soil testing kits, improved rice seeds, vermi beds, lemon saplings and 2,000 poultry chicks, were distributed among around 200 farmers and beneficiaries. The Governor also interacted with villagers and students of Jagra LP School.------------
