Howrah, 24 May (H.S.): Two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from the Unsani area under Jagacha Police Station in Howrah district on charges of illegally entering India using forged documents.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ramzan Gazi and Arifa Begum. The duo claimed to be husband and wife. Their ages are reported to be between 35 and 37 years.

According to police sources, the accused had been living in the Majherpara area of Unsani. Preliminary investigation revealed that they are residents of Satkhira district in Bangladesh.

The police alleged that the two had entered India by preparing fake identity documents and had been residing in the state illegally. They are scheduled to be produced before the Howrah district court on Sunday.

Illegal infiltration has remained a major political issue in West Bengal, with the Bharatiya Janata Party repeatedly raising concerns over cross-border infiltration. After coming to power in the state, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari stated that his government would take strict measures to prevent illegal infiltration and strengthen border security.
