Guwahati, 24 May (HS): Following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s historic victory in the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly elections, the party’s Assam unit has announced a grand felicitation ceremony to honour the 82 newly elected MLAs. The programme will be held on May 26 at 6 PM at the Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium in Guwahati.

Earlier in the day, an organisational meeting will also be convened at the Sri Sri Damodardev Auditorium from 10 AM in the presence of district and mandal presidents from across the state.

According to a statement issued from the party’s state headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, BJP Assam Pradesh will also felicitate presidents of all 39 organisational districts and 433 mandals in recognition of their contribution to the party’s electoral success. The information was shared by party spokesperson Pranjal Kalita.

The spokesperson stated that the BJP’s return to power for a historic third consecutive term in Assam was made possible due to the tireless efforts and dedication of grassroots workers. He said nearly 65 lakh party members and around 72,000 active karyakartas across 31,486 booths played a key role in securing the mandate.

He further claimed that compared to the 2021 Assembly elections, the BJP registered an increase of nearly five percent in vote share and secured around 38% of the total votes in the 2026 polls.

The party also stated that the initiative aims to acknowledge the leadership, organisational commitment and sacrifices of district and mandal presidents, while further strengthening the BJP’s grassroots network in Assam.

The event will be attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, State BJP President Dilip Saikia, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita, along with party office bearers, MPs, former legislators, district leaders, morcha representatives and several invited guests.---------------
