North 24 Paragnas, 24 May (H.S.): Angry residents staged a road protest in the Amdanga area of North 24 Parganas district on Sunday, demanding immediate repair of a badly damaged road. Protesters burned tyres on the road and blocked traffic in the Government Colony area under the All India Trinamool Congress-run Beraberiya Panchayat.

The demonstrators alleged that road construction work had started nearly nine months ago but was abandoned midway. Large portions of the road have reportedly lost their asphalt surface, with stones and debris scattered across the stretch, making daily commuting extremely difficult for local residents.

The blockade temporarily disrupted vehicular movement in the area, leading to heavy traffic congestion. After receiving information, a team from Amdanga Police Station reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Residents claimed that the damaged condition of the road could lead to a major accident at any time. They also alleged that repeated complaints to the panchayat authorities had failed to produce any result.

Local resident Deepak Biswas said, “The road must be repaired immediately. Its condition is so dangerous that a serious accident can happen at any moment. People are facing immense difficulties every day.”

Villagers warned that if the road is not made motorable soon, they would intensify their agitation in the coming days.
