Bhubaneswar, 24 May (H.S.): Large parts of Odisha are likely to continue experiencing intense summer conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting persistent heatwave conditions in western districts and hot, humid weather along the coastal belt on Sunday.

According to the IMD, the prevailing weather pattern is expected to persist until May 27. The department has also predicted thunderstorm activity during afternoon hours in several parts of the state.

An Orange Warning for heatwave conditions has been issued for Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Bolangir districts, where temperatures are expected to remain significantly above normal. Meanwhile, 13 other districts have been placed under a Yellow Warning for hot and humid weather conditions.

Western Odisha continues to reel under extreme heat. On Saturday, at least five towns recorded temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius, with Jharsuguda emerging as the hottest place in the state at 45.2 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists said the combination of soaring daytime temperatures and high humidity levels is likely to make weather conditions uncomfortable across many parts of Odisha over the next few days. Authorities have advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, stay hydrated and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.
