New Delhi, May 24(HS): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday met members of 36 families from the A-3 area of Harsh Vihar (Gokalpuri) at the Chief Minister Jan Seva Sadan after they finally received electricity connections following years of delay. Manoj Tiwari, Member of Parliament from North-East Delhi, was also present during the interaction.

Addressing the families, the Chief Minister said that the long wait endured by residents of Harsh Vihar A-3 for electricity connections and the satisfaction now visible on their faces demonstrated how responsive governance and timely administrative action can bring meaningful transformation to people’s lives.

She stated that during a public grievance hearing, local residents informed her that many families in the area had been waiting for regular electricity connections since 2018. Following this, she immediately directed the concerned authorities to take necessary action and instructed all related agencies to work in coordination to ensure a swift resolution of the issue.

The Chief Minister explained that nearly 50 to 60 houses had already been constructed in the A-3 area of Harsh Vihar by 2018, and many families had been residing there for years. However, despite the development of the colony, regular electricity supply could not be ensured because land required for setting up an Electric Sub-Station (ESS) was unavailable. As a result, most families were forced to live without formal electricity connections.

Following the Chief Minister’s direct intervention, the required coordination was established among the concerned departments and stakeholders, and land for the installation of transformers was arranged.

Subsequently, the electricity distribution company undertook the work in mission mode, installing transformers and expanding the required power distribution network throughout the locality. Electrification work in the area has now been completed. Additionally, the process of installing electricity meters for eligible applicants is progressing rapidly. Most demand notes have already been issued, and all remaining families are expected to receive regular electricity connections soon.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that the remaining families in the area are also provided electricity connections within the stipulated timeframe. She further instructed authorities to ensure that no citizen in the future is forced to wait for years to access basic civic amenities.
