Kolkata, 23 May (H.S.): A meeting of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti was held at Magra Rural Hospital in Hooghly district on Friday under the chairmanship of Sumana Sarkar, BJP MLA from Balagarh.
The meeting was attended by Chinsurah-Magra Block official Rajib Poddar, BMOH Shubhodeep Chakraborty, and other health department officials.
During her visit, the MLA inspected different sections of the hospital and interacted with patients and their family members to understand the problems they were facing. Staff members engaged in serving food to patients informed her about issues related to the hospital kitchen and also demanded a hike in their wages.
Following the inspection, a review meeting was held with officials where several issues related to hospital management and public services were discussed.
Speaking after the meeting, Sumana Sarkar alleged that corruption during the previous 15 years under the All India Trinamool Congress government had severely affected sectors such as education and healthcare. She said the entire system had deteriorated and restoring it would take time.
The MLA also expressed concern over unhygienic conditions in parts of the hospital premises and irregular vehicle parking arrangements. She advised hospital authorities to maintain cleanliness on the campus and create a proper designated parking area.
She also urged roadside vendors not to block roads by parking handcarts in congested areas, saying it was causing inconvenience and traffic disruption near the hospital.
