
Mumbai, 23 May (HS): Maharashtra’s
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 2.25 kg of cocaine worth Rs
11.25 crore in two different operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
International Airport. Four foreign nationals who had concealed the drugs in
their body parts, were arrested.
The DRI officers
arrested a women and a man coming from Addis Ababa were held on May 22. The two
confirmed that they swallowed the Cocaine capsules. They were taken to hospital,
where 84 capsules were recovered. The cost of the capsules in the international
market is estimated to be Rs 7 crore. The capsules contained 1.40 kg of cocaine.
Earlier on May 19 DRI
arrested an African man and African women also coming from Addis Ababa. Both swallowed
the cocaine capsules, and were taken to a hospital. The DRI team recovered 850
gram of cocaine from 63 capsules. The price of the concaine is around Rs 4.25
crore.
The action was taken
under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Investigation
into the racket behind the smuggling has been initiated.
