Vice President Pays Tribute to Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on Death Anniversary


New Delhi, 21 May (H.S.): Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and several Union ministers on Thursday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary, remembering his contribution to the nation and his sacrifice in public life.

Paying homage to the former Prime Minister at his residence, Vice President Radhakrishnan said that Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions to public life and his sacrifice in the service of the nation are remembered with respect and gratitude.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also paid heartfelt tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary and recalled his contributions to the country.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan paid humble tributes to the late former Prime Minister and said that his contribution to nation-building would always be remembered.

Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal also paid homage to Rajiv Gandhi and remembered his contribution to the country.

It is noteworthy that Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in a suicide bomb attack on May 21, 1991, at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. He served as the Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989. Rajiv Gandhi is regarded as one of the leaders who laid the foundation for India’s information technology and telecommunications revolution. During his tenure, several significant initiatives were undertaken in the fields of computerisation, expansion of telecommunications, and administrative modernisation.
