21 May (HS): Students enrolled in Uttar Pradesh universities and colleges will

no longer be excused from wearing uniforms after leaving school. Governor

Anandiben Patel, as Chancellor, has directed the implementation of a standard

system at all institutions and colleges across the state. Until date, no rule

required university and college students to wear uniforms.

During

a Governor-chaired review meeting, the Chancellor issued the order implementing

uniforms. She stated that implementing a consistent system similar to that used

in schools will lessen the likelihood of prejudice or social inequalities

amongst kids. The Governor also emphasized the need of incorporating

career-oriented education into higher education institutions and ordered

colleges to launch new vocational programs. She stated that these programs will

assist girls and women become self-sufficient.

Anandiben Patel directed universities and colleges to launch vocational

programs in order to prepare female students for employment and

self-sufficiency. She especially asked colleges to offer courses in beautician

training, mehendi, GST, bindi production, accounting, and millet-based food

preparation so that students may become self-employed and get jobs. She also

stated that successful programs held at other institutions and colleges should

serve as examples for wider adoption of similar activities.
