Lucknow,
21 May (HS): Ghaziabad police booked the rape suspect and over a dozen of his
followers on traffic obstruction charges after they held a procession outside
the jail following the release of a Hindu right leader on bail. Sushil
Prajapati was freed on bail on May 17 after serving about eight months in jail
in connection with a rape allegation lodged at Muradnagar Police Station in
August 2025. Following his release from the Dasna prison in Ghaziabad, his fans
greeted him with flower petals and a parade.
According
to police, Prajapati's supporters hoisted him on their shoulders to celebrate
his release, while a convoy of automobiles as part of the joyful parade created
traffic disruption. The
new FIR, filed at Masuri Police Station, comes after videos purporting to show
a celebration surfaced on social media, prompting widespread outrage from the
public.
The
fans drove erratically and blocked roadways, jeopardizing public safety and
travel, according to authorities. Ajay Kumar, Masuri Station House Officer,
claimed that attempts are ongoing to identify rally participants using CCTV
footage and videography. According to the police, on August 8, 2025, an LLB
student accused Prajapati of raping her in a residence in Muradnagar after
forcing her to drink a cold drink suspected of containing intoxicants. According
to the FIR, Prajapati befriended the woman in 2021 and reportedly convinced her
to move her law business from Meerut to Ghaziabad by providing professional aid
and referrals to renowned attorneys.
On
the day of the alleged event, he summoned her to Muradnagar under the guise of
arranging a meeting with a top lawyer, the report said. According to the
police, Prajapati escorted the victim to an apartment where the alleged assault
occurred. Following the FIR, the police offered a reward of Rs 25,000 for
information on Prajapati's whereabouts. On August 20, 2025, he was apprehended.
