New Delhi, 21 May (H.S.): The Central Government has adopted a strict stance against the rapidly growing use of beauty injections and anti-ageing treatments in the country. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), functioning under the Union Health Ministry, has issued a public notice warning people against the misuse of cosmetic products through injectable procedures.
The organisation has clearly stated that no cosmetic product can be administered through injections. According to CDSCO, cosmetic products are meant strictly for external use, and injecting them into the body is a violation of existing regulations.
The notice was issued by the Drug Controller General of India, Dr. Rajeev Raghuvanshi. It stated that products such as skin-whitening injections, anti-ageing injections, and glutathione-based beauty injections cannot be sold or promoted as cosmetic products.
According to the organisation, under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the Cosmetics Rules, 2020, cosmetic products are permitted only for application, spraying, cleansing, or beautifying external parts of the body such as the skin, hair, and nails. The use of injectable substances for anti-ageing purposes does not fall within the legal definition of cosmetics under the Act.
The Health Ministry has also directed beauty clinics, aesthetic centres, and medical professionals to strictly comply with the prescribed regulations and guidelines regarding cosmetic and aesthetic treatments.
