
Dakshin Dinajpur, 21 May (H.S.):
Kamal Sarkar, former chairman of Buniadpur Municipality and a Trinamool Congress leader, was arrested on Thursday afternoon on charges of taking huge amounts of money in connection with a land-related matter.
According to police sources, the accused leader is being produced before the court later in the day.
Local sources said that a few months ago, a person had approached Kamal Sarkar seeking assistance in a land-related issue. It has been alleged that Sarkar took several lakh rupees from the complainant on the promise of getting the work done.
However, even after a long period, the work was allegedly not completed and the money was not returned. The complainant then approached the police and lodged a formal complaint against the former municipal chairman.
Based on the complaint, police initiated an investigation and arrested Kamal Sarkar on Thursday. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
