Lucknow,
21 May (HS): Gorakhpur's reputation as a national rowing powerhouse will be
strengthened further on Thursday, when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attends
the concluding ceremony of the 46th Junior National Rowing Championship at
Ramgarh Tal.
During
the ceremony, the CM will observe two final rowing events before congratulating
victors and addressing attendees. The competition follows the successful
staging of the Sub-Junior National Rowing competition at Ramgarh Tal in October
2024, where CM also met with athletes.
The
quick renovation of the Ramgarh Tal lakefront and the construction of a
world-class Water Sports Complex for Rs 49 crore have substantially improved
the region's rowing facilities. The site has also hosted a training camp for
India's women's rowing squad, which is preparing for the 2026 Asian Games.
According
to Sudhir Sharma, vice-president of the Rowing Federation of India, teams from
20 states, including host Uttar Pradesh, will compete in the competition. The
five-day tournament includes around 273 athletes and officials. Ramgarh Tal has
recently held rowing events such as the Khelo India University Games 2023, the
Sub-Junior National Championship in 2024, the Asmita National Women's Rowing
League earlier this month, and the Junior National Championship.
In
a post on X, UP CM remarked, “Today, I will participate in the closing ceremony
and award distribution of the 46th Junior National Rowing
Championship (Under-19) at the sacred land of penance of the great yogi Guru
Shri Gorakhnath Ji, Gorakhpur. This national competition has infused new energy
into the enthusiasm, discipline, dedication, and sporting talent of the young
athletes who have come from across the country. I am fully confident that this
blessed land of Gorakhpur will become a new source of inspiration for the
dreams, resolves, and successes of young athletes.”
