
Bhubaneswar, 21 May (H.S.): Odisha Chief Minister on thursday expressed pride and gratitude after Prime Minister showcased Odisha’s rich artistic heritage during his visit to Norway by presenting traditional Odia handicrafts to the Norwegian Royal Couple.
In a social media post, the Chief Minister stated that the Prime Minister once again highlighted India’s civilisational richness by placing Odisha’s timeless art traditions at the centre of an important diplomatic exchange.
According to the post, Prime Minister Modi gifted a traditional Palm Leaf Pattachitra to Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway. The artwork, deeply rooted in Odisha’s temple traditions, is known for its intricate craftsmanship and devotional artistic expression that has been preserved for centuries.
To His Majesty King Harald V of Norway, the Prime Minister presented a silver sailboat crafted in the renowned Cuttack Filigree tradition, one of Odisha’s most celebrated silver art forms. The handcrafted piece symbolises India’s maritime legacy and the enduring friendship between India and Norway.
Chief Minister Majhi described the gesture as a proud moment for the artisans of Odisha, whose craftsmanship continues to carry forward the state’s ancient cultural legacy to the global stage.
He further thanked Prime Minister Modi for choosing Odisha’s iconic art forms for such a distinguished diplomatic occasion, stating that the recognition reflects the growing global appreciation for India’s living heritage and Odisha’s traditional craftsmanship.
