New Delhi, May 20 (H.S.): World No. 2 tennis player Carlos Alcaraz of Spain has withdrawn from the upcoming Wimbledon Championships due to a wrist injury. Alcaraz stated that he has not yet fully recovered, making it impossible for him to participate during the grass-court season.

The 23-year-old posted on social media platform X on Tuesday, saying, “My recovery is progressing well and I’m feeling better every day, but unfortunately I’m still not fully ready to compete. Because of this, I have to withdraw from Queen’s and Wimbledon. These are two very special tournaments for me, and I’m going to miss them a lot. We are continuing to work hard for a speedy return.”

Earlier, Alcaraz had also withdrawn from the 2026 French Open, where he was the defending champion. He suffered the wrist injury during his first-round match at the Barcelona Open last month. Although he defeated Otto Virtanen in that encounter, he later pulled out of the tournament.

Alcaraz had created history earlier this year by winning the Australian Open and becoming the youngest male player to complete a Career Grand Slam. He has registered an impressive 22-3 record this season and also clinched the title in Doha.

Following his defeat to Jannik Sinner in the Monte Carlo Masters final, Alcaraz also lost the World No. 1 ranking.
