Thiruvananthapuram, 20 May (H.S.) :Milma has announced a hike in milk prices across Kerala, increasing the price by ₹4 per litre following a decision taken at a meeting of its Board of Directors. The revised rates will come into effect from June 1, resulting in the price of one litre of Milma milk rising to ₹56.

Milma officials said the increase was necessitated by rising production costs and the need to ensure better returns for dairy farmers. According to the cooperative, a major share of the increased amount will directly benefit milk producers. Of the ₹4 hike per litre, ₹3.35 will be passed on to farmers, aimed at improving their income and supporting the state's dairy sector.

The price revision will not be limited to milk alone. Milma has also decided to increase the prices of various milk-based products, which is expected to affect consumers across the state.

Officials stated that the decision was taken keeping in mind the sustainability of Kerala’s dairy industry and the welfare of thousands of farmers who depend on milk production for their livelihood. They maintained that strengthening the dairy sector and ensuring fair compensation for producers remains a key priority.

Discussions regarding a possible price increase had reportedly taken place during a Milma Board meeting held in April. However, it was decided then that any revision would be implemented only after the announcement of the Assembly election results.

With the decision now receiving final approval, the revised rates will be enforced from the beginning of next month. While dairy farmers are expected to welcome the move as a financial relief, the increase is likely to add to the burden on consumers already dealing with rising household expenses.

The latest revision is expected to trigger discussions across the state on balancing farmer welfare with consumer affordability.
