New Delhi, 02 May (H.S.): The Central Government has appointed Rohit Jain as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a three-year term. Jain will succeed current Deputy Governor T. Rabi Shankar, whose tenure concludes today.

This information was conveyed in a notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Saturday. The notification states that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved Rohit Jain's appointment as RBI Deputy Governor. The ACC order specifies that Jain is appointed to the position for three years from the date he assumes charge—on or after May 3, 2026—or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Rohit Jain will replace T. Rabi Shankar, whose extended tenure ends today. Prior to this, Jain has been serving as Executive Director (ED) at RBI since December 2020. As Executive Director, Jain oversaw the Department of Supervision (Risk, Analytics, and Vulnerability Assessment).

Notably, the Central Government interviewed four Executive Directors for the Deputy Governor position last month, finalizing Rohit Jain among them. Jain brings nearly three decades of experience at the Reserve Bank, having worked in critical areas including supervision, human resource management, and banking.
