
New Delhi, 18 May (H.S.): Several star batsmen and bowlers delivered impressive performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 matches played on Sunday. Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Punjab Kings, while Delhi Capitals registered a victory over Rajasthan Royals. The contests also made the races for the Orange Cap and Purple Cap even more exciting.
Virat Kohli played a crucial innings of 58 runs off 37 balls against Punjab Kings. With this knock, his tally for the season rose to 542 runs, bringing him very close to the top of the Orange Cap standings. Only Sai Sudharsan (554 runs) and Shubman Gill (552 runs) remain ahead of him.
Meanwhile, Cooper Connolly scored 37 runs off 22 deliveries, taking his aggregate this season to 473 runs and moving him to eighth position in the standings.
In the second match of the day, KL Rahul produced an excellent innings of 56 runs from 42 balls. The performance took his season tally to 533 runs, helping him overtake Heinrich Klaasen and climb to fourth place in the Orange Cap race.
Young Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed 46 runs from just 21 balls and has now moved to sixth position with 486 runs this season.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar continues to enjoy an outstanding season with the ball. Against Punjab Kings, he dismissed Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh to finish with figures of 2/38. Although his economy rate was slightly expensive in the match, he continued his consistent wicket-taking form.
With these two wickets, Bhuvneshwar’s tally for the season has risen to 24 wickets. He is now three wickets ahead of second-placed Kagiso Rabada, while Anshul Kamboj trails him by five wickets.
In the evening fixture, Jofra Archer returned to form with impressive figures of 2/35. After struggling in his previous three matches, Archer made a strong comeback and has now climbed to fourth place in the Purple Cap standings with 17 wickets.
