(HS): A special court in Nagpur convicted Jayesh alias Jayeshkant alias Shahir
alias Shakir Pujara, and Afsar Pasha alias Bashiruddin alias Khushiruddin
Mohammad for issuing threats to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for extortion.
Additional
Sessions Judge Anilkumar K Sharma delivered the verdict in the case registered
by Nagpur’s Dhantoli Police Station.
According to the
prosecution, the accused made threatening calls from Hindalga Central Prison in
Belgavi to Gadkari’s office on landline number, demanding Rs 100 crore and then
Rs 10 crore. The caller issued threats of bomb blasts and serious consequences
if the money was not paid
Police
investigation revealed that different mobile numbers were used from the jail
premises for issuing threats. Police collected technical and electronic
evidences including the SIM cards, call details, bank transactions, messages on
mobile phones and their links to banned organisations Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan
and the Daud Gang. Another accused in the case Shakir Mohammad Hanif is
absconding.
Special Public
Prosecutor Adv Vedika Patil examined 64 witnesses within one-and-a- half month before
presenting the technical and documentary evidence before the court.
