Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a high‑level review meeting on India’s preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow, Scotland. The meeting was aimed at ensuring better coordination among all concerned agencies and at putting in place a robust support system for Indian athletes.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, representatives of the Indian Olympic Association, the Chef de Mission for the Commonwealth Games 2026, and officials of the Sports Authority of India. Participants discussed at length the athletes’ preparations, training schedules, operational arrangements, and the overall coordination mechanism.
Reviewing plans for athlete training, travel arrangements, facilities, and welfare support, Dr. Mandaviya said the Central Government is committed to providing Indian athletes all possible assistance to ensure their best possible performance. “Timely planning, coordination among various agencies, and athlete‑centric preparations are the key to a successful campaign,” he added.
The meeting also discussed preparations for the closing ceremony of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, during which India is formally scheduled to receive the right to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The 2030 edition will be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Senior representatives of the Government of Gujarat also participated in the deliberations. Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi shared suggestions on various aspects related to hosting and preparation.
The meeting reviewed the progress of coordination work being undertaken by the Sports Secretary with different ministries and departments. Special discussions were held to ensure smooth travel, operations, and other arrangements for the Indian contingent. Officials of the Sports Authority of India and the Sports Ministry outlined the roadmap being prepared for athletes’ international exposure, training programmes, staffing of support personnel, and contingency plans.
At the review meeting, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Indian Olympic Association, the Sports Authority of India, the Government of Gujarat, and other concerned stakeholders reaffirmed their collective commitment to an Indian success campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
