Chandigarh, 15 May (H.S.): A high-alert rescue effort in progress on Friday evening after a four year old boy Vanshu slipped into an uncovered borewell in Chak Samana village near Bhikhowal on the Hoshiarpur–Dasuya road, with authorities and emergency teams rushing to the scene.
According to initial reports, Gurkarn Singh (Vanshu) son of Ravinder Singh was playing near his house at around 4:30 pm when he accidentally slipped into the open borewell. Locals immediately informed the authorities. Police, fire brigade teams, and rescue personnel rushed to the spot without delay. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was also called in and has joined the operation with advanced equipment.
Senior officials, including Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Malik, are personally supervising the rescue efforts at the site. Local volunteers, including members of the Baba Deep Singh Sewa Dal, are also actively assisting the administration in the operation.
Sources indicate that the child was initially stuck at a depth of around 25 feet. However, during excavation work using JCB machines, the child reportedly slipped further down. At present, he is trapped at approximately 50 feet inside a pipe. Rescue teams are supplying continuous oxygen to the child through pipes, while cameras have been inserted to monitor his condition in real time.
To safely reach the child, authorities have begun digging a parallel pit alongside the borewell. Heavy machinery, including JCBs and tractors, is being used to remove soil rapidly. Ambulances and medical teams have also been stationed at the site to provide immediate treatment once the child is rescued.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh and Member of Parliament Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal also visited the site. Calling the incident extremely unfortunate, they highlighted concerns over negligence, noting that the borewell had been recently constructed. They expressed hope that the rescue operation would be successful and the child would be brought out safely.
