Guwahati, 15 May (HS): The bail petition hearing of Shyamkanu Mahanta, the prime accused in the high-profile murder case linked to singer Zubeen Garg, is scheduled to be held on Friday before the bench of Justice Mitali Thakuria.
The case has continued to remain in the spotlight following repeated rejection of Mahanta’s bail pleas by the Fast Track Court as well as the Gauhati High Court earlier this week. On 13 May, the single bench of Justice Parthivjyoti Saikia had refused to accept the bail petition.
Sources said Mahanta’s legal team had subsequently completed further legal formalities at the registrar’s office of the Gauhati High Court after the rejection of the plea.
Notably, the Fast Track Court had earlier reserved its order on the bail application after hearing detailed submissions on the chargesheet in April and later rejected the plea on 30 April. Another key accused in the case, Siddharth Sharma, had also been denied bail previously.
The matter continues to draw significant public attention due to the sensitivity and high-profile nature of the case.----------
