New Delhi, 15 May (H.S.): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, launched on Friday an integrated hydrogen‑powered shuttle bus service in Delhi’s Central Vista area.
Two shuttle buses set off from the Central Secretariat Metro Station at 8:30 am for passengers today, DMRC said in a statement.
According to the statement, the buses were formally handed over by Arvind Kumar, Director (Refinery) of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), to Dr. Amit Kumar Jain, Director (Operations and Services) of DMRC, in the presence of senior DMRC and IOCL officials. Each bus has a seating capacity of 35 passengers. The buses are equipped with GPS‑based tracking and CCTV systems, which enable real‑time monitoring, enhance safety, ensure punctuality, and help in adhering to the designated route.
The shuttle service will operate on all working days (Monday to Friday, excluding gazetted holidays) during peak office hours at the following timings: 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm, with a bus available every 30 minutes. The service will cover key government offices and landmarks, including Krishi Bhawan, Vigyan Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, Akbar Road, Baroda House, National Stadium, National Gallery of Modern Art, India Gate, and the Sewa Kendra Metro Station. Ticket fares have been fixed in a phased manner at ₹10 and ₹15.
DMRC will manage bus operations, conductors, ticketing arrangements, and passenger assistance, while IOCL will provide drivers and the hydrogen fuel. This initiative underlines the Government of India’s commitment to green mobility, adoption of clean energy, and sustainable public‑transport infrastructure.
