Amritsar, 15 May (H.S.): The
Customs Department carried out a major operation at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee
International Airport in Amritsar and seized gold worth 2.58 crore from a
passenger. The accused was travelling from Amritsar to Kuala Lumpur on Malaysia
Airlines flight MH-119.
Customs officials became suspicious of the
passenger’s activities and intercepted him for further investigation. A
detailed examination, including personal search and baggage screening, was
conducted.
During the inspection, officials recovered 1,676 grams of 24-carat gold concealed in
the form of a kada and a gold biscuit. The total value of the seized gold is
estimated to be around 2.58 crore.
The gold has been confiscated under relevant
provisions of the Customs Act. The passenger has been arrested and further
investigation is underway. Officials
suspect that the case may be linked to a larger gold smuggling network, and
further probe is being carried out.
