Kolkata, 15 May (H.S.) : Former West Bengal Food Minister and Trinamool Congress MLA from Madhyamgram, Rathin Ghosh, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate on Friday morning in connection with the ongoing investigation into the alleged municipal recruitment scam.

According to sources, Ghosh reached the ED’s office at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake at around 10:30 a.m. The central agency had reportedly summoned him multiple times for questioning in the case.

Speaking briefly to reporters before entering the office, Rathin Ghosh said, “I do not know the exact reason for which I have been called.”

The Enforcement Directorate is probing alleged irregularities and financial transactions linked to recruitment in various municipal bodies across the state. Several political leaders and administrative officials have already been questioned as part of the investigation.

Sources in the agency said questioning of Rathin Ghosh has begun and investigators are examining his role in matters related to municipal recruitment. Officials are reportedly confronting him with multiple documents and records linked to the alleged corruption.

The latest development comes amid intensified action by the central agency in the case. Just three days ago, former state Fire Services Minister and senior Trinamool Congress leader Sujit Bose was summoned by the ED for questioning and was later arrested.

In another major development, the ED on Thursday arrested former Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas, who was considered close to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Against this backdrop, Rathin Ghosh’s questioning is being seen as part of the agency’s widening probe into the alleged recruitment scam.
