(HS): Renowned psychiatrist and writer Dr Anand Nadkarni passed away on Friday
early morning, in a hospital in Parel, Mumbai. He was 67. Dr Nadkarni was the
founder of the Institute of Psychological Health in Thane in 1990, which receives
services of around 70 mental health professionals.
Born in Jalgaon
District of Maharashtra, Dr Nadkarni was known for connecting clinical medicine
and social health. He was founder trustee of Pune-based Muktangan
Rehabilitation Centre and had extended consultation for establishing ‘Chaitanya’
de-addiction centre of Matru Sewa Sangh in Nagpur (now defunct).
Dr Nadkarni
authored 17 books in Marathi, some of which have been translated into English
and Braille Language. His writings were included in Maharashtra ninth standard
textbook.
Dr Nadkarni is
survived by his wife and a son.
