New Delhi, 15 May (H.S.):

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday handed over appointment letters to 109 employees of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on compassionate grounds and distributed medical health cards to contract staff. The letters and health cards were presented at a ceremony held at the NDMC Convention Centre on Jai Singh Road.

The event was attended by Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj, NDMC Chairman Keshav Chandra, Vice‑Chairman Kuljit Singh Chahal, council members Dinesh Pratap Singh, Anil Valmiki and Sarita Tomar, and NDMC Financial Adviser Rakesh Kumar.

Addressing the ceremony, the Chief Minister said that her continuing initiatives have given new hope to 109 families through these compassionate appointments, which will provide long‑term stability and security. She expressed particular pleasure that nearly 90 women are among those appointed, and voiced confidence that the selected candidates will serve with full dedication and commitment to strengthen the resolve of a “Developed India, Developed Delhi.”

Commending the distribution of medical health cards under the Liberalised Medical Health Scheme (LMHS), the Chief Minister described the move as a major relief for contract employees. She noted that medical expenses often impose a heavy financial burden on families, and cashless medical facilities will act as a protective shield for employees and their dependants.

PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said NDMC’s initiative to provide appointment letters to dependants of deceased employees and to extend medical cards to contract staff is a significant step toward social welfare. He added that these measures have brought smiles to the faces of dependants and eased the burden on contract workers, who will no longer have to bear heavy financial costs in medical emergencies.

MP Bansuri Swaraj said that the NDMC council had considered long‑pending demands for compassionate appointments and medical‑card facilities for contract employees with full sensitivity and empathy, and granted approval. She described the measures not merely as administrative acts but as deeply humane initiatives.

NDMC Chairman Keshav Chandra said that distributing appointment letters to 109 employees on compassionate grounds reflects the council’s commitment to honouring the families of long‑serving deceased employees by providing them dignity, financial stability and emotional support. He called the initiative a symbol of NDMC’s resolve to stand firmly with staff and their families in difficult times.

He noted that the move is a historic welfare step for 878 contract employees across 38 categories in NDMC, including engineers, nurses, technical and clerical staff. About 878 contract employees and their families will now be eligible for cashless medical treatment at NDMC‑affiliated hospitals and diagnostic centres. He also highlighted NDMC’s achievements in 2025–26, including 954 promotions through 81 departmental promotion committees, MACP benefits extended to 4,357 employees, speedy resolution of pension matters, and recruitment initiatives through DSSSB and UPSC.

Vice‑Chairman Kuljit Singh Chahal appealed to officials, employees and citizens to adopt the Prime Minister’s vision of sustainable development as a mass movement by embracing public transport, car‑pooling, electric vehicles, energy conservation, a digital work culture, and “Make in India” products.
