Guwahati, 15 May (HS): Senior BJP leader and legislator Chandramohan Patowary on Friday took oath as the Protem Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly ahead of the special session scheduled to begin on May 22.

The oath of office was administered to Patowary by the Governor at a formal ceremony held in Assam Lok Bhawan. He has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the proceedings of the Assembly till the election of the new Speaker.

The special session of the Assam Legislative Assembly is slated to commence from May 22, during which newly elected members are expected to take oath and other key legislative formalities will be carried out.----------
