Nagaon (Assam), 15 May (HS): Soon after taking oath as Chief Minister for a second term, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday visited Batdrawa Than, the birthplace of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva. Dressed in traditional attire, the Chief Minister offered ‘Sarai’ at the temple Kirtanghar and sought blessings from the Vaishnav devotees during the visit.
Later, the Bordowa Than Management Committee felicitated the Chief Minister at the Natghar premises. Committee president Amlan Jyoti Dev Goswami, vice-president Jogendra Narayan Dev Mahanta, executive president Gobin Chandra Das and other members were present on the occasion. Local party workers and organisations also extended a warm reception to the Chief Minister.
Addressing the gathering of devotees, Sarma said that the government would continue efforts to transform Bordowa Than into a globally recognised religious heritage destination. He further stated that the government remains committed to building the kind of Assam envisioned by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also held a meeting with the Bordowa Than Management Committee at its office. During the discussion, committee general secretary Lachit Bordoloi highlighted several issues, including traffic congestion caused by narrow roads connecting Shalguri Satra and Norowa Satra, shortage of drinking water within the Than premises, inadequate drainage facilities, and the need for development of the Doul Mandir and Satiradhika Smriti Kshetra.
Responding to the concerns, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assured the committee that work for resolving the problems and undertaking developmental measures would begin soon.----------
