New Delhi, 13 May (H.S.): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will travel by bus on 14–15 May to inspect the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palakhi route projects in Pune, the ministry said. Officials, journalists and security personnel will accompany him on the bus during the journey.

In an official letter, Gadkari said that, following the Prime Minister’s suggestion, reducing fuel consumption is essential for national energy security. He noted that travelling by bus will not only save fuel but also improve traffic management and public convenience.

For this reason, he has directed that the number of vehicles deployed in the security convoy during the tour be reduced by up to 50 percent compared with normal deployment.

The letter instructs the Police Commissioner of Pune city, the District Collectors and Senior Superintendents of Police of Pune, Satara and Solapur to make necessary arrangements. Copies of the letter have also been sent to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Maharashtra. He directed that all required measures be taken to ensure the event proceeds smoothly.
