New Delhi, 13 May (H.S.): The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday announced the Class 12 results for 2026, with an overall pass percentage of 85.20 percent—3.19 percentage points lower than last year. Girls continued to outperform boys in this year’s results.

According to figures released by the Board, 1,780,365 students registered for the examinations this year, of whom 1,768,818 appeared; 1,507,109 candidates were declared successful. The pass percentage declined from 88.39 percent in 2025 to 85.20 percent in 2026, a drop of 3.19 percentage points.

CBSE reported that the pass percentage for girls stood at 88.86 percent, while that for boys was 82.13 percent, meaning girls outperformed boys by 6.73 percentage points.

Regionally, the Trivandrum division topped the list with a pass rate of 95.62 percent, followed by the Chennai, Bengaluru and Vijayawada divisions. Delhi (West) recorded 92.34 percent and Delhi (East) 91.73 percent, yielding an overall Delhi pass percentage of 91.97 percent. Prayagraj registered the lowest pass rate at 72.43 percent.

CBSE schools located abroad achieved a combined pass percentage of 90.50 percent. Candidates with special needs (CWSN) recorded an overall pass percentage of 90.16 percent.

The Board stated that 163,800 students—equivalent to 9.26 percent of examinees—have been placed in the compartment category this year. A total of 94,028 students secured 90 percent or more marks, while 17,113 students obtained above 95 percent.

Regarding institutional performance, Kendriya Vidyalayas recorded the highest pass percentage at 98.55 percent, with Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas at 98.47 percent. Government schools posted 89.55 percent, government-aided schools 86.07 percent, Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) 85.55 percent, and independent schools 84.22 percent.

CBSE added that students’ digital mark sheets, migration certificates and other documents have been made available through DigiLocker. Candidates can view their results on the Board’s official website and via the DigiLocker platform.

It may be recalled that the CBSE Class 12 board examinations were conducted from 17 February to 9 April this year.
