New Delhi, 13 May (H.S.): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully extradited fugitive Prabhdeep Singh from Azerbaijan and brought him to India on Wednesday, the agency said. Prabhdeep Singh was the principal accused in a case registered with the Delhi Police Special Cell and is alleged to have been the organiser of a narcotics racket.

According to the CBI, a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 was registered against Prabhdeep Singh. The probe recovered a large quantity of narcotics and led to the arrest of several co‑accused. At the request of the Delhi Police, the CBI obtained a Red Notice through Interpol channels; Azerbaijani authorities subsequently apprehended him and, following completion of the requisite legal formalities, surrendered him to India. A three‑member escort team from the Delhi Police travelled to Baku and accompanied him back to Delhi on 13 May.

The CBI, which functions as India’s National Central Bureau for Interpol, coordinates with all law‑enforcement agencies via the Interpol‑India platform, the agency noted. It added that, through combined efforts with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs and other enforcement agencies, more than 160 wanted offenders have been successfully extradited to India in recent years.
