New Delhi, 13 May (H.S.):

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested wanted accused Sanjit Chakravarty on Tuesday in connection with the high‑profile chit‑fund scam in Tripura, the agency said; he is alleged to have defrauded investors of approximately Rs 7.75 crore.

The CBI said Chakravarty served as chairman‑cum‑managing director of Kolkata‑based Cosmic Negotiators Private Limited and went absconding after an FIR was registered by the Tripura Police in 2013. Following notifications from the Government of Tripura and the central government, the CBI took over investigation of these cases.

After inquiry, a chargesheet was filed in the first case in 2015 against Sanjit Chakravarty and others, alleging fraud of about Rs 7.48 crore. In a second case, a chargesheet was filed in 2024, alleging fraud of approximately Rs 27.13 lakh. In both matters, Chakravarty was listed in the chargesheets as an absconding accused.

The CBI said the accused evaded arrest continuously since 2013. The agency gathered intelligence through field verification, technical and surveillance measures, analysis of call detail records and open‑source intelligence, after which he was traced and arrested in Kolkata.

The arrested accused will be brought to Tripura after procuring a transit warrant from a Kolkata court and produced before a competent court there. The investigation is ongoing.
