New Delhi, 12 May (H.S.): Tamil Nadu’s ruling party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), MLA Sinivasan Setupathi has moved the Supreme Court, challenging a Madras High Court order that barred him from voting in the assembly during the confidence motion. Setupathi’s election has been challenged in the Madras High Court, where he secured victory by a margin of just one vote.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant and sought an early hearing. The Court has listed the petition for hearing on 13 May.

Setupathi had won the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election from Tiruppattur by a single vote. His election has been contested by DMK candidate K.R. Periyakaruppan in the Madras High Court, who has alleged irregularities in the poll process. Periyakaruppan has claimed in his petition that one postal ballot was not counted because it had been sent to the wrong assembly constituency.
