
Guwahati, 12 May (H.S.): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said here today that infrastructure projects worth nearly ₹2 lakh crore are in the pipeline for Assam. He expressed confidence that the BJP government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will fully live up to the people’s trust and further accelerate the pace of development in the state.
Speaking to reporters after arriving in Guwahati to attend the Chief Minister’s swearing‑in ceremony, Gadkari noted that the people of Assam have placed their trust in the Bharatiya Janata Party for the third time in a row. He stated that development work in the state will continue uninterrupted and that the Union government is committed to making Assam economically stronger.
Gadkari added that projects worth nearly ₹2 lakh crore are being planned from his ministry alone, which will provide new momentum to road connectivity, transport systems, and economic activities in the state.
Notably, the BJP‑led National Democratic Alliance government is set to assume power in Assam for a third consecutive term. Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will take the oath as Chief Minister for the second time. Earlier, in a meeting of BJP and NDA legislators, Sarma was unanimously elected as the leader of the party. Senior leaders of allied parties, including Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front, were present at the meeting.
Ahead of the swearing‑in, Sarma announced that Rameshwar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro, and Ajanta Neog would take oath as ministers. Ranjeet Dass was also declared the NDA’s candidate for the post of Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
