
Guwahati, 12 May (HS): Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday took oath as the Chief Minister of Assam. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at a grand ceremony held at the Veterinary College playground in Khanapara, Guwahati.
Dr. Sarma was sworn in for another term in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, along with chief ministers of several NDA-ruled states, national leaders and a massive gathering of supporters.
Extensive preparations had been underway over the past several days for the swearing-in ceremony, which witnessed large public participation and tight security arrangements.
Notably, the NDA secured a more than two-thirds majority in Assam for the third consecutive term. On May 10, Dr. Sarma was unanimously elected leader of the NDA legislature party in the presence of central observers and Union minister JP Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.--------
