Marking the beginning of a new chapter in Tamil Nadu politics, actor-turned-politician Vijay took oath as Chief Minister on Sunday. Several prominent opposition leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, attended the swearing-in ceremony.
After the oath-taking, Rahul Gandhi congratulated Vijay and said that Tamil Nadu had chosen “a new generation, a new voice and a new vision.”
In a post on the social media platform X, he wrote that the people of Tamil Nadu had made their decision in favour of change. Rahul expressed hope that Vijay would live up to the aspirations and expectations of the people of the state.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at 11 a.m. on Sunday in Chennai, was also attended by leaders of the Congress, the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). These parties had supported Vijay’s party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in the assembly elections.
After taking the oath, Vijay thanked Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal for their support.
