NDA Legislature Party Set to Elect Leader at Meeting in Assam BJP Headquarters

BJP State Parliamentary Board will take names from MLAs and corporators for the names of Mayor, the senate process will be held on May 2-3


Guwahati, 10 May (HS): The BJP-led NDA alliance in Assam is holding a crucial meeting of its legislature party at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, the state BJP headquarters in Guwahati, on Sunday to elect its leader. Following the selection, the alliance leaders are scheduled to meet Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and stake claim to form the new government in the state.

It may be mentioned that Union Minister and BJP national observer Jagat Prakash Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister and deputy observer Nayab Singh Saini have already arrived in Guwahati for the meeting. BJP legislators along with members of alliance partners are present at the party headquarters for the important deliberations.

In the recently concluded 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the BJP secured victory in 82 out of 126 seats. The NDA alliance collectively won 102 seats, including 10 seats each won by the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bodoland People's Front.

A celebratory atmosphere prevails at the BJP headquarters ahead of the legislature party meeting. Preparations are also in the final stage for the swearing-in ceremony of the new government, which is scheduled to be held on May 12 at Khanapara playground in Guwahati.----------
