Hyderabad, 10 May (H.S.):
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday assured continued and stronger support from the Union government for Telangana’s development, saying that the growth of states remains central to the vision of a developed India by 2047. Speaking at a public meeting in Hyderabad, he said the Centre would keep extending assistance to the state in a more vigorous manner as part of its broader push for “Viksit Bharat 2047.”
The Prime Minister’s remarks came after he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a series of projects worth around ₹9,400 crore across Telangana, covering industrial expansion, rail connectivity, petroleum infrastructure and textile development. The event was held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre and attended by Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and other senior leaders.
Development push across sectors
Among the major projects announced were the Zaheerabad Industrial Area in Sangareddy district, the PM MITRA Park in Warangal, multi-tracking work on the Kazipet–Vijayawada railway line, and a greenfield petroleum terminal at Malkapur. These projects are intended to strengthen manufacturing, improve logistics and create employment opportunities in the state.
The Zaheerabad project has been projected as a future industrial smart city with world-class infrastructure and digital systems to attract global investors. The Centre has also linked the initiative to its wider industrial corridor strategy, which aims to turn Telangana into a stronger manufacturing hub.
A major highlight of the visit was the inauguration of the PM MITRA Park in Warangal, also known as the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park. Officials have described it as a key step in reviving India’s textile ecosystem and expanding industrial activity in Telangana.
PM Modi also underlined railway modernisation in the state, saying that Telangana’s railway allocation had risen sharply over the years and that large-scale works were currently underway. The rail projects, along with highway expansion, are expected to improve regional connectivity and support trade and mobility.
The Prime Minister’s speech also drew attention for his light-hearted exchange with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Revanth had asked for the same kind of development momentum that Gujarat received during Modi’s years as chief minister, to which Modi responded in a joking tone that the chief minister would have to “join” him to get that level of support.
The exchange gave the event a political edge, even as both leaders publicly emphasised the importance of development cooperation. PM Modi said that governments of different parties in states are natural in a democracy, but that state-level growth is essential for national progress.
The Centre framed the projects as part of a larger effort to push infrastructure-led growth in Telangana, with special focus on manufacturing, connectivity, energy security and employment generation. The government also highlighted plans around ethanol blending and piped gas networks as part of its energy strategy.
