Shillong, 01 May (HS): Marking the beginning of Meghalaya’s transition to a fully digital Census system, Governor CH Vijayashankar on Friday became the first individual in the state to complete enrolment, officials confirmed.
The Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, is also set to register as part of the initiative’s early phase. The Governor carried out his enrolment in the presence of senior officials, formally inaugurating the digital drive aimed at enhancing public participation and streamlining data collection.
Urging citizens to actively engage with the process, Vijayashankar highlighted that adopting a digital platform would improve accessibility, efficiency and transparency. He described the move as a significant step towards more responsive and data-driven governance, calling on people to contribute to the success of the exercise.
The Governor further underlined the importance of accurate and comprehensive data for effective policymaking, noting that it plays a key role in implementing welfare schemes and development programmes.
Officials stated that the initiative forms part of the groundwork for Census 2027. By shifting to a digital format, authorities aim to simplify enumeration, reduce manual errors, enable real-time data capture and ensure greater reliability in the overall process.------------
