Amit Sharma assures full census coverage for migrants, visits camps in Jammu


Jammu, 01 May (H.S.): Chief Principal Census Officer and Director Census Operations, J&K and Ladakh, Amit Sharma today reviewed preparations for Census 2027 with officers of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants) and assured that the migrant community will be fully covered during the nationwide exercise.

During the meeting, he said every individual and household would be counted without any exclusion.

Sharma also clarified that no personal or financial details such as Aadhaar, PAN, bank account information or similar documents would be collected during the Census.

He said the exercise would be conducted through a secure and citizen-friendly digital system, with an option for self-enumeration through an online portal.

He informed that House Listing Operations and Housing Census will be conducted from June 1 to June 30, 2026, while the self-enumeration window will remain open from May 17 to May 31, 2026.

Population Enumeration will be held in February 2027, while snow-bound areas will be covered earlier in September 2026.

He said mobile applications, geo-referenced mapping and the Census Management and Monitoring System will be used for real-time monitoring.

Later, Sharma along with Relief Commissioner Arvind Karjwani visited Purkhoo Camp and other migrant camps, interacted with families, spread awareness about the upcoming Census and took stock of issues faced by residents.

He said migration-related details collected during the exercise would help in policy planning and welfare measures.

Officers of the Relief and Rehabilitation Department assured full cooperation for awareness and outreach among migrant families.
