New Delhi, 09 April (H.S.): A high‑tension IPL 2026 thriller between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals has not only delivered one of the season’s most gripping contests, but has also reshaped the Orange and Purple Cap race as the playoffs chase gathers pace. Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna and leg‑spinner Rashid Khan have vaulted up the Purple Cap leaderboard, while Yashasvi Jaiswal has claimed the top spot in the Orange Cap table with a scintillating blistering knock.
Purple Cap: Bishnoi still on top, Prasidh and Rashid close in
Ravi Bishnoi (Rajasthan Royals) remains perched at No. 1 in the Purple Cap race, with seven wickets from just three matches at an economical average of 11.71, underlining why he is being touted as the tournament’s leading spinner so far.
However, last year’s Purple Cap winner, Prasidh Krishna (Gujarat Titans), has roared back into contention after a telling performance against Delhi Capitals. In the tense GT–DC match, the right‑armer claimed 2 for 52 in four overs, including a wicket with the very first ball of the innings, and then held his nerve in the final over, using a well‑disguised slower delivery that deceived David Miller and led to a crucial run‑out on the last ball, sealing the Titans’ one‑run victory.
Thanks to that outing, Prasidh has climbed to second place on the Purple Cap list, edging closer to Bishnoi in the race for the top‑bowler’s title.
After the 14th match of the season, six bowlers are tied for third with five wickets each: Rashid Khan (Gujarat Titans), Lungi Ngidi (Delhi Capitals), Vijaykumar Vyshak (Punjab Kings), Anshul Kamboj (Chennai Super Kings), Nandre Burger (Rajasthan Royals), and Jacob Duffy (Royal Challengers Bengaluru).
Orange Cap: Jaiswal takes the crown
On the batting front, Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rajasthan Royals) has surged to the top of the Orange Cap standings with a stunning performance in the Royals’ rain‑shortened encounter against Mumbai Indians. The 24‑year‑old smashed an unbeaten 77 runs off 32 balls, laced with brutal sixes and boundaries, to power RR to a comfortable victory in Guwahati.
That blitzkrieg took his total to 170 runs in three innings, having been dismissed only once, pushing him ahead of Sameer Rizvi (Delhi Capitals), who had earlier led the table with 160 runs.
Wider batting race heats up
Beyond the Orange Cap‑holders, eight other batters have already crossed the 100‑run mark this season, underlining the depth of big‑hitting talent in the league. Among the top five run‑getters are Heinrich Klaasen (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians), all of whom have hit rich form in the opening phase of the tournament.
As the IPL 2026 season moves into its second half, the race for both the Orange and Purple Caps has become tighter than ever, with the Gujarat–Delhi thriller once again proving that a single match can radically shift the momentum in the race for season‑long individual honours.
