New Delhi, 08 April (H.S.):
Hockey India announced a 24-member Indian women's hockey squad for the Argentina tour from April 13-17 in Buenos Aires, featuring four test matches against the hosts. This tour is crucial preparation for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 and Asian Games.
The squad balances experience and youth, with midfielder Salima Tete captaining once again, known for her composure and skill.
Forward Deepika returns from injury, bolstering penalty corner threats; her absence saw Navneet Kaur, Manisha Chauhan, Udita, and Annu excel. Goalkeeper Savita's comeback adds stability, complementing Bichu Devi's recent qualifier heroics for healthy rivalry.
Defender Jyoti and forward Mummtaz Khan strengthen the lineup, while young guns Baljeet Kaur, Vaishnavi Phalke, Rutuja Pisal, Ishika, and Sakshi Rana draw attention after impressive form.
Chief Coach Sardar Mirjan called the tour ideal for gaining international exposure and refining combinations.
