Global markets presented mixed cues today, with US indices closing higher in the previous session but Dow Jones futures trading lower. European markets remained closed for a holiday, while Asian bourses showed divided performance.
Monday's two peace proposals to halt the West Asia conflict sparked optimism on Wall Street. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 165.21 points or 0.36% to close at 46,669.88. The S&P 500 rose 0.44% to 6,611.83, while Nasdaq climbed 117.16 points or 0.54% to 21,996.34.
However, Iran's rejection of both proposals weighed on sentiment today. Dow Jones futures fell 0.15% to 46,601.01 amid renewed concerns.
Asian markets traded mixed, with five of nine major indices in green while three declined. Hong Kong's Hang Seng remained flat due to a holiday. GIFT Nifty dropped 152.50 points or 0.66% to 22,848.50, Straits Times fell 0.28% to 4,958.44, and Nikkei slipped 64.68 points or 0.12% to 53,349.
In contrast, Kospi advanced 0.22% to 5,462.05, SET Composite gained 0.28% to 1,458, Taiwan Weighted surged 1.49% or 485.02 points to 33,057.45, Jakarta Composite rose 0.42% to 7,019.08, and Shanghai Composite edged up 0.03% to 3,881.17.
