Moscow , 06 April (H.S.):
Jeffrey Sachs, American economist and Director of Columbia University's Center for Sustainable Development, asserts that only three global leaders—India's PM Narendra Modi, China's President Xi Jinping, and Russia's President Vladimir Putin—possess the capacity to de-escalate rising Iran tensions.
Urgent Call for BRICS Intervention
In Russia Today's New Order program, Sachs warned that without joint intervention by these powers, the West Asia crisis risks morphing into global instability. He urged them to convince US President Donald Trump to end the conflict, emphasizing BRICS nations' (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) decisive role, as India currently chairs the bloc.
Critique of Trump and Israel
Sachs highlighted perils of prolonged conflict: Iranian retaliation to potential US bombing, economic fallout for Global South, and Trump's miscalculation of war costs. He accused segments of Israeli leadership of harboring a 6th century BCE mindset and dismissed Pakistan's mediation claims, insisting BRICS alone can broker peace.
India's Strategic Stance
Praising India's stature to reject American delusions, Sachs recommended collective action with BRICS partners, leveraging New Delhi's historic Iran ties for mediation. He cautioned India against aligning with Israel post-Gaza and labeled Western nations as US vassal states, urging autonomy.
